Dual Credit & Early Admit

Get a jumpstart on your higher education!

Start your future now by taking advantage of the Dual Credit/Early Admit Program. High school students attending a public, private, charter, or home school can take college-level courses and start working on a certificate or degree.

Steps to Apply

High school students must complete steps 1 and 2 below.

Take the first step, apply to SJC today!

When you create your Admissions account with SJC you will select one of the following:

  • Dual Credit – CURRENT NM High School student taking college-level courses.
  • Early Admit – CURRENT Non-NM High School student taking college courses.

Homeschool Students: If you are a NM resident, select Dual Credit.  If you are a resident of another state, select Early Admit.

Complete the High School Admissions to San Juan College form. 

Submitting your high school transcript is part of the enrollment process and is used for placement into certain classes that have a GPA requirement.

For Dual Credit and Early Admit Students:

  • Your high school guidance counselor will submit your unofficial transcript when filling out their portion of the High School Admission Form online.

For Homeschool Students:

  • If your parent has created a high school transcript, they will submit your unofficial transcript when filling out the High School Representative portion of the High School Admission Form online.
  • If you are an incoming 9th grader and do not have an established high school transcript, have your parent email admissions@arsuhotel59.com for next steps.

Eligibility

The Dual Credit/Early Admission Program provides access to academic and career and technical education (CTE) courses that deliver simultaneous credit toward high school graduation and a postsecondary degree or certificate. College courses are offered for dual credit based upon agreements between high schools and accredited public colleges.

Dual Credit Students attending High School in one of the following districts: 

  • Aztec Municipal Schools
  • Bloomfield School District
  • Central Consolidated School District
  • Cuba Independent School District
  • Dulce Independent Schools
  • Farmington Municipal Schools
  • Gallup-McKinley County Schools

Early Admission Students attending High School in one of the following districts: 

  • Archuleta School District (Pagosa Springs)
  • Bayfield School District
  • Dolores School District
  • Durango School District 9-R
  • Ignacio School District
  • Mancos School District
  • Montezuma-Cortez School District
  • Southwest Colorado School
  • Southwest Open School 

Homeschool Students who reside in one of the districts outlined in the table above. 

If you attend a school district that is not listed above and are interested in taking classes at San Juan College, please email the Dual Credit Coordinator for more information.

Costs

Tuition and general fees are waived for New Mexico residents from participating school districts. 

Course or program fees are paid by a participating school district or by the student. Check with your high school counselor or the SJC Dual Credit Coordinator.

Textbook costs vary by school district. Please ask your high school counselor for more information. 

Early admission students from Southwest Colorado high schools are charged New Mexico resident tuition. Check with your high school counselor to confirm your school district will pay the tuition.

General fees are waived.

Course or program fees may be paid by the school district or paid by the student. Check with your high school counselor or the SJC Dual Credit Coordinator.

Early admission students are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks and materials.

Registering for Courses

After being admitted to San Juan College, students can register through their high school representatives or at the Registration and Records office. Students must meet all pre-requisite requirements to register for courses. Students are responsible for following SJC’s Academic Calendar and knowing all important dates and deadlines. These include start and end dates of the semester, add/drop dates and the date to withdraw from all courses with a “W’ on college transcript.
